In light of recent mass shootings, including the one in Dayton, Washington-Centerville Public Library is partnering with the National Issues Forum Institute (NIF), a nonpartisan organization, to host a facilitated discussion about gun violence on October 30, 6 PM at Woodbourne Library.

Using a structured guide, produced by the NIF, attendees will discuss “How Should We Prevent Mass Shooting in Our Communities.” To avoid polarization and encourage discussion, the guide features three options to deal with this national problem, and explores the upsides and drawbacks of each option. The options are: 1) make mass killings more difficult; (2) equip people to defend themselves; (3) root out violence and hate in society.
The forum gives individuals the opportunity to discuss the issue and explore possible approaches, share their experiences, and listen to the experiences of others. “Finding a solution to a complex problem can only be achieved when people from all walks of life come together to talk about approaches, actions, and trade-offs to find common ground,” says Darla Minnich of the National Issues Forum Institute.

No registration is required for this event, but space is limited.
