Terry Jack and Virginia York Represent National Issues Forums Institute (NIFI) at Portland, Oregon Conference
Blog Category:
National Issues Forums Institute (NIFI) Ambassadors Terry Jack and Virginia York recently attended the 13th Annual American Political Science Association’s Teaching and Learning Conference in Portland, Oregon. The conference provided a forum for teachers and scholars to participate in the scholarship of teaching and learning, share effective techniques, and to discuss trends in political science education. Specific panels such as Deliberation in the Classroom Affecting Change, Civic Engagement Across the Disciplines, and Solving the Citizenship Challenge: The Role of Higher Education were a perfect fit for NIFI.
The following is an excerpt from their report about the conference and representing NIFI:
Over two and a half days representatives of colleges and universities from across the United States and Canada participated in the 13th annual APSA Teaching and Learning Conference. The conference provided a forum for teachers and scholars to participate in the scholarship of teaching and learning, share effective techniques, and discuss trends in political science education. The panels and workshops in nine content tracks presented some of the best practices for engaging students and training them to think critically, communicate effectively, and to evaluate, consume, and generate knowledge that a democratic society requires. Dr. York and I pointed out that the issue books we provided could be used to accomplish these objectives.
