America’s Future: What Should Our Budget Priorities Be?” Public forum sponsored by the Center for Civic Life at Ashland University, Nov. 17 at 7 pm in room 249 Dauch College of Business and Economics, 401 College Ave., Ashland. Three out of 4 dollars in the federal budget will be needed to pay for entitlement programs (social security, Medicare/Medicaid), and the military by 2015, leaving only one dollar of four for education, infrastructure, the national debt, and everything else. Participants will grapple with the pros and cons of each of three approaches to the problem: (1) Keep tightening our belts, (2) Investing in the future, and (3) Taming the monsters (defense, social security, Medicare/Medicaid). This forum is not a presentation, but a public discussion; come prepared to express your thoughts and listen to those of others. Local results will be included in a national discussion on the issue.
