TALK Colby will host its first community discussion on the topic "A Community Discussion on A Nation In Debt" at the Colby Community College H.F. Davis Memorial Library on Thursday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited.
The same discussion is being held in colleges across the U.S. Many Americans are concerned about the US national debt. By the end of fiscal year 2018, the US government owed around $21.7 trillion in gross federal debt ($15.8 trillion in public debt and $5.9 trillion in intragovernmental debt—money that is owed by one part of the government to another part). It was $10 trillion just ten years ago and is projected to rise to $34 trillion in another decade.
The TALK Colby discussion will ask: What should we do to shrink the national debt? In addressing it, there are many things to consider and weigh. The discussion will focus on ways of approaching the national debt. Each action that we might take has trade-offs we should consider.
The event is being hosted by the H.F Davis Memorial Library, Prairie Museum of Art & History and facilitators from TALK Salina. For more information contact Linda Davis-Stephens at 785-460-5528 or Greg Stephens at 785-819-6887. There is no charge and all voices will be heard.
