"Safety and Justice" Deliberative Forums at Lawson State Community College, Birmingham, Alabama

A deliberative forum held on February 28, 2017, at Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama, focused on the National Issues Forums Institute (NIFI) issue guide, Safety and Justice: How Should Communities Reduce Violence?. The forum was just one part of a larger project intended to introduce deliberation to the teacher education curriculum and to campus life.

Venita Tubbs, Social and Behavioral Department Chairperson; Instructor Gregory Wilson; and Dr. Peggy Sparks are leading this campus-wide effort. Also involved with the February 28th forum, and with the larger project, are Dr. Wanda Minor, Instructor Corey Hand, College Police Chief James Blanton, and College President, Dr. Perry Ward.
