Students Speak - Community Colleges Hold Online Discussions about the Economy, and about Racism and Racial Healing

On November 5, 2020, two Students Speak online discussions brought community college students together from different parts of the country to consider two important and difficult public issues. One group, made up of students from all nine community colleges in West Virginia talked together about how the economy is affecting them. Another group included students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), a Tribal College, and an Appalachian College to talk about racism and racial healing.

Taylor Willingham Legacy Fund Grants - Applications Now Being Accepted

Applications are now being accepted (deadline is November 30, 2020) from individuals who are interested in being considered to receive a Taylor L. Willingham Legacy Fund grant. Grants are provided to individuals to enable them to develop an understanding of deliberative democracy and launch one or more deliberative dialogues in their communities and organizations in order to advance NIFI's overall mission, which is to promote public deliberation about national issues.

Two Hundred Students from 26 Campuses - 2020 Common Ground for Action (CGA) Cross Campus Forums

Nearly 200 students from 26 colleges and universities joined in last week’s 2020 Common Ground for Action (CGA) Cross-College Campus forums, an annual event convened by the National Issues Forums Institute (NIFI).  Students spent a week deliberating on issues like policing, free speech and the inclusive campus and voting as part of NIFI’s With the People Initiative
